about

Blueberry buttermilk pancakes on the griddle and Willie's Roadhouse on the XM radio. These are a couple things that remind me of hanging with my Dad at his place on North Harper Lake. Today (10/3/20) is the third anniversary of him not being physically present with us here, but the spirit still remains. He passed on some good things. The love of nature and the gift of music. He left me with some rotten habits. A very short fuse with myself and a pretty fowl vocabulary at times. We sure didn't always see things the same, but I could count on him when the chips were down and he could count on me. Shared trauma - the death of my mom and stepmother; and shared fun - howling for wolves at midnight in the middle of the woods and the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. - were bonding experiences.

I think he would have liked this song. Hoping he can hear it.

lyrics

I’m Going Home

There really isn’t too much left of me here, think it might be time for me to disappear
I know you don’t want to hear it – I’ll be with you in spirit

I’ve outlived most of my favorite girls, hope to see them all again in a better world
To the one I’ve left behind – tell her she’ll be on my mind
Always on my mind

But I’m going home – now I’m halfway gone
These tired old bones – they been holding me down
One thing I know it’s a damn good day to go
And I just may be the lucky one again, ‘cuz I’m going home

Might have made a big mistake or two, carried around a bit of regret – like you do
But I’m leaving it all behind – it’s my time to fly, my time to shine

I’m going home – now I’m halfway gone
These tired old bones – they been holding me down
One thing I know it’s a damn good day to go
And I just may be the lucky one again, ‘cuz I’m going home
