They say persistence pays. I don't know. Maybe so. This song was inspired by a persistent little sled dog named Smokey. We met Smokey a few years ago down at Black Husky Brewing where she was supervising behind the bar. She's since crossed the rainbow bridge, but we honor her memory each time we do this song. You can find out more about Smokey and the beer named after her on the Black Husky Brewing web site.
lyrics
Smoke Monster
I think I’ll dig a hole and bark into it - everybody seems to think I’m kind of crazy anyways
When the smoke clouds clear I might get down to it
Find the monster lurking there and blow his ass away
They say persistence pays in many ways
Like all the nights and days I’ve prayed
To let it be okay as we roll down life’s winding highway
Wind at our tails, sun on our face
Never met a trail that wasn’t worth the wandering
New saw a sunrise that didn’t make me want to smile
Never knew a tree that didn’t beg for climbing
Never found a piece of shade that wouldn’t rest these weary bones a while
They say persistence pays in many ways
Like all the nights and days I’ve prayed
To let it be okay as we roll down life’s winding highway
Wind at our tails, sun on our face
Think I’ll find an E-Z chair and curl up into it
Been everything I want to be, seen everything I want to see
They say every dog she’ll have her day – yeah, I already knew it
Let the tireless efforts cease, maybe find a little peace
They say persistence pays in many ways
Like all the nights and days I’ve prayed
To let it be okay as we roll down life’s winding highway
Wind at our tails, sun on our face
